This week we move from Proverbs 5 into Proverbs 6:1-11, and the subject shifts from sexual sin to money and work.
|
|
Solomon addresses two situations: what happens when someone makes a financial promise he can't back up, like cosigning a loan, and what happens when someone refuses to work and expects others to carry him. He gives real guidance for both — how to know when helping someone financially is wise, and when it puts your own family at risk.
|
We'll look at three things:
|
- Why Solomon calls cosigning a loan "a snare," and what to ask before agreeing to one
- The difference between the Good Samaritan's financial sacrifice and a reckless guarantee
- What the ant teaches about work ethic, and Paul's instruction to the church at Thessalonica about believers who refused to work
Growing In Faith
Spiritual growth mostly happens in the ordinary days between services, not just during them. Research keeps pointing to the same four things:

- Barna research found that Christians who actively practice their faith are nearly twice as likely as Christians who don't to have read their Bible in the last week. Reading the Bible is a positive step of growth.
- Pew Research found that nearly 9 out of 10 highly committed Christians pray about a big decision before they make it, more than they rely on their own research or anyone else's advice. Today, choose to pray about decisions, nothing is too small.
- A study by Barna and The Navigators found that only about 1 in 4 Christians have someone walking closely with them in their faith. This week, talk to someone at church who's a step ahead of you, or check in on someone newer than you.
- Pew Research found that highly committed Christians are far more likely to give their time or help someone in need — 65 percent had done it in just the past week. This week you can grow in faith by looking for an opportunity to help someone.
