Today is Wednesday, which means it is time for BIBLE STUDY!!!! The book of Proverbs is proving to be a very interesting study.
|
|
This Wednesday in Proverbs: God’s Handbook for His Image Bearers, we come to the second item in Solomon’s list of things God hates: “a lying tongue.”
|
At first, the lesson seems simple. God is the God of truth. Satan is called the father of lies. When we speak truth, our words reflect the character of God. When we deliberately deceive, our words reflect the character of Satan.
|
But then the Bible gives us some passages that make us stop and think. God says that He cannot lie, yet in 1 Kings 22 a lying spirit is sent to deceive King Ahab. Ezekiel records God saying, “I the LORD have deceived that prophet.” Paul says that God will send people “strong delusion, that they should believe a lie.” So what is happening?

Can God lie? Does God ever use deception? And how can those passages fit with a God whose very character is truth?
|
In this wee'ks study, we are going to work through those questions carefully. Along the way, we will see something important about lying, God’s justice, and what can happen when a person repeatedly rejects the truth God has given them.
